BARELY ten years ago, donkeys meandered among the few vehicles along the street through the village of Cabarete. Today the village has grown and modernised but still retains its small-world charm. Hola ! A word you hear all around you, as the Dominicans are known for their warmth and friendliness.

Here walking is in style! On the streets, you will easily mingle with the local inhabitants and merchants. Equally, on the same street corner you will find a mix of all nationalities in the world.

Known for its outstanding water sports, the village is also reputed for its natural charm. By day, it is a pleasant idleness under the palm trees. Or it can be volleyball on the beach, or the soft incursions of the roaming vendors. By night, it is the wide choice of restaurants, their tables arranged on the beach under candlelight serenaded by the local musicians. Feel like enjoying a good steak or seafood?…or perhaps some Italian cuisine? Vegetarian? There is all this and more! Why not try some of the local Dominican food? For just a few dollars you can sample such dishes as La Bandera: rice, chicken and red beans cooked in a delicious sauce. You like something different ? Try their vegetables: tayota, yucca, auyama, boiled platano, just to name a few. And not to forget their many exotic fruits: juicy mangos, passion fruit to refresh you, papaya, tasty avocados…a veritable Horn of Plenty!

Nightlife, and the restaurants transform themselves for evening dancing. You can stroll along the beach and choose from the Merengue, the Bachata or the Salsa. Whatever your taste, you can also enjoy music from all around the world.

The motor-taxis, or moto-concho are unique: for a few pesos you can be transported wherever you want. You will see them also carrying their families … of five! Their laundry, their tanks of propane, anything goes!

Or there are the public buses la guagua: something to experience! But the regular taxi service is reliable and clean.
